Lecture on Hydrogen and the Global South by Dr. Eric Cezne

On March 19th Dr. Eric Cezne held a lecutre examining the role of hydrogen in the developing Global South, focusing on the unique opportunities and challenges for its adoption in these regions. With the global energy transition accelerating, hydrogen has emerged as a potential clean energy solution, yet its implementation in developing countries face some hurdles.

Dr. Cezne delved into the technological, economic, and social considerations that affect the deployment of hydrogen projects in the Global South. These include the availability of renewable energy sources, infrastructure challenges, and the need for capacity building in countries that may lack the technical expertise or resources to implement large-scale hydrogen initiatives. Additionally, the lecture addressed the geopolitical dynamics and the influence of international actors in shaping hydrogen policies in developing nations.

The lecture also highlighted the importance of international cooperation and the role of support mechanisms, such as funding and technology transfer, in helping these countries harness hydrogen’s potential. As the Global South seeks to transition to cleaner energy sources, understanding the geopolitics of hydrogen is crucial for ensuring equitable and sustainable energy development.
